Today marks the start of my daily blogging journey as I prepare for a 100-mile race in Wales at the end of June. The Epona 100!
Training Recap: I did a 3.5 mile run on the north downs with my wife and our friend Sam. I also did a kettlebell session at lunchtime. Just what I needed.

Reflections: I was hanging on at the back – they are both faster than me but I enjoyed a short blast. I also wonder how much doing kettlebells at lunchtime made my legs feel like jelly.
Fitness Progress: Not feeling very fit. But here are the numbers for what it’s worth.
Hill score 51
Four week elevation 7,484ft
Hill endurance: 45
Hill strength: 14
VO2 max: 47
Nutrition and Hydration: I had a bagel this morning, plus some pepperami, pork pie, crisps and tortellini carbonara. Plus a beer this evening in a lovely microbrewery after our run.
Mental Preparation: Keeping at the daily steps. Thinking ahead about how I will deal with adversity during the race.
Gear Check: Very happy with my Hoka Challenger ATRs. I think I will use them for the Epona 100.
Tips and Tricks: Make good habits. This soon compounds. It would be good if I had better habits 🤣
It’s been almost two years since I last ran 100miles or more. What tips do you have for coming back to 100 mile races?
